FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. -- A road that provides access to the New River for boaters, hikers and anglers will be closed to traffic for much of the time until mid-May for repairs.

The National Park Service says in a news release that Cunard Road in the New River Gorge National River will be closed to allow contractors to repair six storm-related slips that have damaged or threatened the roadway.

Repairs began on Monday and will continue through May 17.

The access road to the New River will be closed to all traffic from 6 a.m. on Tuesdays through 7 p.m. on Thursdays during March and April. In May, it will be closed during non-daylight hours until the project is complete.
