FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. -- A trail in the New River Gorge National River has reopened following repairs to a retaining wall.
The National Park Service closed portions of the Rend Trail in early June after a large hole developed in the 32-foot-high stone wall. The Park Service said that the hole compromised the wall's integrity.
The Park Service said Monday that crews rebuilt the stone outer wall and the trail section. The work also included installation of new culverts and drainage pipes and the creation of new ditches.
