Soon after the fall stockings conclude, hatchery managers are scheduled to begin transferring juvenile trout from overcrowded hatcheries to those with available space. Shingleton said some of the hatcheries' water levels are below normal, but should increase if rains replenish the springs that feed the facilities.
"Hopefully by the time the stockings are finished, we will have had more steady rain," he said. "If we can get all our transfers done on schedule, the trout will have better growth rates, and they'll be bigger when it comes time to stock them next spring."
