Wild boar season opens Oct. 27 in 4 counties
SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Wild boar season in West Virginia starts Saturday and runs through Nov. 3 in four southern counties.
The Division of Natural Resources says the firearms season is open only to state residents.
A special boar permit is no longer required, but hunters must have certain licenses.
Hunting is restricted to Boone, Logan, Raleigh and Wyoming counties. Boar of either sex may be taken but hunters can kill only one per year.
Boar must be checked at official game-checking stations within 24 hours.
Because of the declining population, boar hunting is no longer allowed in December.
Biologist Kem Shaw says conditions will be challenging because of the fall foliage. But boar should be scattered throughout the region because of good mast production.
