CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Charleston's free city pool season opens today at the Kanawha City pool.

The pool at the Kanawha City Community Center will be open from noon to 6 p.m. daily, weather permitting, according to a news release from the mayor's office.

Two other pools will open Wednesday, but the North Charleston and Vandalia pools may not open this year, the release said.

The pools at Cato Park and the Martin Luther King Jr. Community pool will be open from noon to 6 p.m. daily starting Wednesday. Like the Kanawha City pool, these pools are free to the public by order of Mayor Danny Jones.

The pool at the North Charleston Recreation Center may not open this season because of repairs to the shower/bathroom building at the site. And the Vandalia pool will open only if more lifeguards can be hired to adequately staff all the pools, according to the release.
