Number of runners rises for Hatfield and McCoy Marathon

WILLIAMSON, W.Va. -- A record number of runners have signed up for Saturday's 14th annual Hatfield and McCoy Marathon.

Race organizer and promoter David Hatfield said 455 participants from more than 35 states and Canada had pre-registered as of Monday for either the full- or half-marathon. Last year, there were 443 runners.

The race begins Saturday morning in Goody, Ky., and runs through Pike County, Ky., and into Mingo County, W.Va.

Hatfield said the increased interest likely arose because of the History Channel's recent miniseries about the famous feud.
