CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Two Charleston men were indicted on attempted murder charges as part of a list of indictments handed up Friday by a Kanawha County grand jury this week.
Jamel Khalid Mitchell, 18, was indicted on charges of malicious wounding, first-degree robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle and attempted murder. Mitchell allegedly shot Aaron Williams, 29, in the face in January. Williams was shot multiple times with a small-caliber pistol in the 1000 block of Stadium Place on the East End.
Jonathan Lee Parker, 25, was indicted on charges of malicious wounding, attempted murder, first-degree robbery, breaking and entering, third-offense shoplifting and possession of a stolen vehicle. Parker is accused of stabbing and beating Eugene Lewis Mills on Charleston's East End in April.
The grand jury reported 79 indictments against 94 individuals during the May 2008 term. Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney Steve Revercomb's office released the list Friday.
Mills, 45, received at least 20 stab wounds to the front and back of his upper body and at least one to the head.
The grand jury charges suspects via indictments when it believes there is enough evidence of a crime to merit a jury trial. The charges are not findings of guilt.
