TECH BASEBALL: WVU Tech split a pair of games with Salem International University Tuesday at Epling Field. Tech took the first game 10-9 but let a 4-0 lead slip away in the second game, falling 11-7 to the Tigers.
In game one, Manny Zeno hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh to give Tech the come-from-behind win. The Golden Bears and the Tigers combined for 13 runs. Zeno led Tech at the plate with a triple, home run and three RBIs while Gerardo Hernandez tallied two hits and three RBIs.
In game two, Tech jumped out to a 4-0 lead before SIU scored five in the top of the third to take a 5-4 lead. Salem went on to score four more runs in the fifth to make it 11-5. Tech added two more runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
Gabe Cyrus went 2-for-2 with an RBI for the Golden Bears while Justin Maynard was 2-for-3. Tech's Dustin Huffman was tagged with the loss.

Brandon Casamassima had two RBIs, but the Herd led just once, 2-0 after the first inning. N.C. State (14-7) scored four in the second and never trailed again. Freshman Justin Moore (0-1) started for the Herd, yielding five hits and six runs in three innings.
Marshall (8-12) and the Wolfpack play again today in Raleigh, N.C. The Herd returns to Appalachian Power Park this weekend for a three-game Conference USA series against Memphis. Game times are 7 p.m. Friday, 4 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday.

In the opener, the Herd managed six hits, but couldn't score off Megan Elliot. Samantha Rodriguez had two of those hits.

YOUTH SWIMMING: Charleston Catholic High School standouts Katherine Crain and Joseph AbuRahma will represent the Huntington Y Charleston Aquatic Team at the YMCA National Short Course Swimming and Diving Championships April 1-4 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Crain will compete in the 200-yard butterfly and 500, 1,000 and 1,650 freestyle events. Crain tied for top scoring honors in February's state meet, winning titles in the 200 and 500 freestyle.
AbuRahma will swim the 100 and 200 butterfly and 200 and 400 individual medley. He finished third in the 100 and 200 freestyle at the state meet.

WVU ATHLETICS: Sophomore swimmer Morgan Callaway was recently selected West Virginia University's athlete of the week. Callaway represented the Mountaineers at the NCAA swimming and diving championships this past weekend, breaking school records in the 500 freestyle and 100 backstroke.

WVU SWIMMING: Senior Kevin Donahue will represent West Virginia at the NCAA men's swimming and diving championships Thursday in Federal Way, Wash. Donohue posted qualifying times in both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events at the Big East championships, setting conference and school records in both. Donahue's time of 53.07 seconds in the 100 breaststroke was the fifth-best qualifying time in the country while his time of 1:55.78 in 200 breaststroke was the fourth best.

WVU SOCCER: Deanna Everrett scored two goals as the WVU women's team downed Slavia 2-0 Tuesday in Prague, Czech Republic, during its spring break trip. The Mountaineers' Mallory Beck and Kerri Butler combined for the shutout. West Virginia will play today against Roma Calcio Femminile in Rome.

CHAOS SOCCER: Andre Kofinho "Kofi'' Akyere, a junior at the University of South Carolina-Aiken, has signed to play for the West Virginia Chaos, pending approval from the Premier Development League. Akyere, who was raised in Ghana, was named to the Daktronics Division II All-Southeast Region first team and was All-American honorable mention after this past season. He scored 12 goals for Aiken (7-9-2). The Chaos will begin its sixth season in May and expects to announce its full schedule and additional player signings in the next couple of weeks.

YOUTH WRESTLING: Brothers Caperton Humphrey and Paul Richard Humphrey from Shady Spring finished first and second, respectively, at the AAU wrestling world championships in Detroit his past weekend. Caperton Humphrey won the midget 85-pound division and was also named an All-American. He finished the season with an 84-6 record. Paul Richard Humphrey was second in the tot 40-pound weight class.

TOUGHMAN TICKETS: The 29th annual Southern West Virginia Toughman Contest will be held Friday at the Raleigh County Convention Center in Beckley. Tickets are $15 for general admission, $20 for reserved and $30 for VIP Ringside. Tickets may be purchased at any Ticketmaster outlet, FYE at the Crossroads Mall or at the Convention Center box office.
