State's Travis McGrath improved to 6-2, tossing two innings of shutout ball. Sean Jackson went 2-for-5 with a homer and two RBIs for the Hilltoppers.

CHARITY GOLF: Club pros Barry Evans of Berry Hills, Jonathan Clark of Sleepy Hollow and Craig Berner of Edgewood will compete in a three-day charity golf event next week.
As part of the Kanawha Valley Golf Association's men's championship, Evans, Clark and Berner will play April 28-30 beginning with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. each day.
The winner will designate 50 percent of the total pot, which was about $3,000 last year, to his favorite charity. The two others will designate 25 percent to their favorite charities.
The money will come from members' donations.

WV CHAOS: The West Virginia Chaos soccer club has added defender Nick Beasant and goalkeeper Adam Mitchell, both of England.
Beasant has played in European developmental and reserve teams in the English Premier League and for several professional American teams.
Mitchell recently played for the Norwegian Division 2 League.
The Chaos will play an exhibition match against Ashland Park FC of Ashland, Ky., at 8 p.m. May 11 at Schoenbaum Stadium. Admission is $2.

CONCORD BASEBALL: Concord has assumed the top spot in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division II North Atlantic Region poll.
The Mountain Lions won five of six games last week to tie a school single-season record of 33 victories. It is the school's first time as the top-ranked team.

MU QB CLUB: The Marshall University Quarterback Club will play host to a luncheon at noon today at the Pullman Plaza Hotel in Huntington.
Marshall coach Mark Snyder, offensive coordinator John Shannon, defensive coordinator Rick Minter and special-teams coach Jared Smith are scheduled to speak. Admission is $12.

WVU ATHLETE: West Virginia University has named distance runner Keri Bland its athlete of the week after her performances at the WVU Invitational last weekend.
Bland won the 800 meters and posted the fastest time in the Big East this season with a 2:07.01, which qualified her for the NCAA regionals.

MU SOFTBALL: Samantha Rodriguez was named the C-USA co-hitter of the week for her performances against Morehead State and Southern Miss.
Rodriguez went 11-for-19 in five games to lead the Herd to a 4-1 record. She finished the week with seven RBIs, two home runs, three doubles, and four runs scored.

CORRECTIONS: In the Saturday Gazette-Mail, Poca's Roman Gibson was incorrectly identified. He went 2-for-2 with a home run in his team's loss to Winfield. Cory Holliday was also incorrectly identified in Monday's Gazette. The Herbert Hoover baseball player went 5-for-6 with a double and three RBIs in a win over South Charleston.
