Diana Humphries and Samantha Kinder combined for a three-hit shutout in five innings as blanked Concord 8-0. The Yellow Jackets (38-14) then beat Shepherd 4-3, scoring twice in the sixth on a pair of Rams errors and surviving a two-run homer by April Pryzgocki in the seventh.
Jessica Hamilton went 2-for-2 with a home run, a double and four RBIs to lead State in the first game, while Kris Taylor went 2-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs. Against Shepherd, Taylor hit a two-run double in the first inning.
State plays Fairmont State (30-21) at 2 p.m. in the double-elimination tournament, which runs through Saturday.
Freshman hurler Stefanie Rossman fanned nine hitters and allowed one run as the University of Charleston pulled away from Bluefield State 4-1 in the first round. But the Golden Eagles stranded 10 runners in a 4-0 loss to Wheeling Jesuit.
In UC's first game, Natalie Murphy went 2-for-2 with a home run while Michelle Sabelhaus went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Michelle Lee doubled in the second game. UC (33-25) battled West Liberty (11-26) in a loser's bracket game at noon.

Broderick), and one honorable mention (second baseman Chad Chambers).
The University of Charleston placed a player on the second team (outfielder Jim Daily), and two for honorable mention (catcher Kyle Root and shortstop Kyle O'Connell).

BENFORD HONORED: Richmond sophomore Andrew Benford was recently named the Atlantic 10 outdoor track and field performer of the week.
Benford, a Ravenswood native, qualified for the NCAA regional championships in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Penn Relays this past weekend.
Benford took ninth in 8 minutes, 59.11 seconds in the college championship division in just his second career steeplechase event. Benford also qualified for the NCAA regionals in the 5,000 at the Mount SAC Relays in Los Angeles in 14:09.01.
