Roundup: Boswell, Prillaman share medalist honors at W.Va. Amateur qualifier

Josh Boswell of Alderson and Reuben Prillaman of Oceana tied for medalist honors Thursday at the West Virginia Amateur qualifier at Lewisburg Elks.

Boswell and Prillaman each shot a combined two-round score of 139 on the par-70, 5,609-yard course. Boswell had rounds of 3-under 67 and 2-over 72, while Prillaman had a 1-over 71 and a 2-under 68. Justin Windon of Lewisburg shot the low round of the day with a 4-under 66 in the opening round. (For results, see Page 2B.)

Eleven golfers qualified Thursday for the 89th West Virginia Amateur, which will take place Aug. 4-7 at the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs.

  • GIRLS HOOPS: The West Virginia Thunder defeated Indiana F.B.C. 30-11 Thursday in the championship game of the 8-and-under girls division of the AAU national tournament at Disney's Wide World of Sports at Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

    Shelby Cicenas scored 15 points for the Thunder and Taliah Cashwell added seven. Other team members are Haley Baker, Alexis Baldwin, Bethany Blanton, Brianna Blanton, Alexis Hall and Alex Petry.

  • MU SOFTBALL: Amanda Williams was recently named assistant coach for Marshall's softball team, according to Herd head coach Shonda Stanton.

    Williams, who played for Marshall from 2003-06, joined the coaching staff as a volunteer assistant in 2007. Williams has spent the last two seasons with the Rockford Thunder in National Pro Fastpitch.

  • Scott Hall was promoted to director of softball operations for Marshall. Hall, a Stevens City, Va., native who recently received his master's degree in athletic administration, was a student manager the past five seasons.

  • YOUTH SWIMMING: The Huntington Y Charleston Aquatic Team has 66 swimmers entered in the West Virginia Long Course Swimming Championships that begin today at the Kenyon College Natatorium in Gambier, Ohio.
