Boys roundup: Charleston Catholic routs Greater Beckley Christian

Junior pivot Sam Wood scored 18 points Saturday afternoon as Charleston Catholic earned a 62-19 boys basketball victory over visiting Greater Beckley Christian.

The Irish (4-3) bounced back from a 61-47 loss at Poca Friday night.

Also for Catholic on Saturday, John Baird had 11 points. Emmanuel Bockarie led GBC with six points.

  • PLEASURE RIDGE PARK 65, GW 55: Brandon Shonhoff put up 23 points and Nathan Youkum added 10 as Pleasure Ridge Park (Ky.) defeated visiting George Washington. Chase Smith paced the Patriots (5-2) with 22 points, while Matt Johnson scored 11.
  • CAPITAL 75, RIVERSIDE 33: Thirteen players joined in the scoring as Capital downed visiting Riverside, breaking the game open with a big second half. Tommy Gwinn scored 12 points and Jamie Tompkin added 10 for the Cougars (3-1), who led by just 28-21 at halftime but outscored the Warriors (1-6) 26-7 in the third quarter. Wesley Hill led Riverside with 10 points.  
  • SC 83, MIDLAND 52: Aaron Dobson scored 17 points to lead No. 1 South Charleston (5-1), which outscored Cabell Midland 28-11 in the second quarter. Aaron Slusher added 16 points, Perry Henry had 13 and Matt Orcutt 11. Michael Brumfield scored 17 for Midland (3-2).
  • ST. ALBANS 63, NITRO 46: Jon Austin, hampered by foul problems in the first half, scored all 20 of his points in the second half as the host Red Dragons broke open a close game. Also for SA (3-4), Dominique Yarbrough scored 17 points and Aaron McNeil added 10 points and 11 rebounds. For Nitro (3-6), which lost its sixth in a row, Cody Scott had 17 points and Larry West 10.
  • CALVARY BAPTIST 72, NEW LIFE 51: Calvary jumped out to a 26-8 lead and never looked back in the road win.
  • J.R. Nida and Caleb Wilkinson scored 21 points apiece for Calvary (8-4) and Cody Totten chipped in 11. Levi Bleigh poured in 28 points for New Life (3-4) and Tyler Dean added 12.
