C-USA has entered a similar alliance in football, the CFO West group, with the Big 12, Mountain West and Western Athletic conferences. The basketball alliance will be coordinated by Curtis Shaw, the just-retired official who worked in the 2010 Final Four.
"Regional officiating models are becoming more and more efficient and we are pleased to get someone with as much experience and credibility as Curtis to head this new officiating program," said C-USA commissioner Britton Banowsky.
Shaw, often jokingly called "Fast Draw," pulled an unusual feat. In the same week, he ejected Rice's Sammy the Owl mascot and Marshall volleyball coach Mitch Jacobs for perceived courtside misbehavior.
