LAKEWOOD, N.J. - A two-run double by Keoni De Renne in the bottom of the ninth gave the Lakewood BlueClaws a 7-6 comeback win over the West Virginia Power Thursday night in front of a crowd of 6,408.
The Virginia had a 6-0 lead in the top of the sixth before a five-run bottom half drew Northern Division-leading Lakewood within one run.
The Power rolled up 13 hits, and Jarek Cunningham homered for the second straight game for West Virginia (14-20), blasting a two-run shot in the fifth inning, his 10th of the year. David Rubinstein collected a pair of doubles and scored a run for the Power while Benji Gonzalez went 3-for-4.
Power starter Phillip Irwin was solid, tossing 51/3 innings and yielding two runs (one earned) on two hits, two walks and striking out nine, but didn't factor in the decision. Reliever Marc Baca was tagged with three earned runs on five hits and a walk while recording just one out, contributing to Lakewood's big sixth inning.
Eliecer Navarro (1-1) blew a save and took the loss for West Virginia, giving up two hits and two runs without recording an out in the ninth.
De Renne and Leandro Castro each drove in two runs for Lakewood (22-12). Ebelin Lugo (5-1) got the win after striking out one in a scoreless ninth inning.
The teams will continue the four-game set at 7:05 tonight.
