The St. Albans High School Lady Red Dragons Summer Shootout begins today and runs through Thursday.

More than 40 girls high school basketball teams will play 60 games in three days at the St. Albans High main and auxiliary gyms and the Ayash Active Sports Complex. (See Page 2B for schedule.)

North Marion, the three-time Class AAA defending state champion, and St. Joseph, the Class A three-time defending titlist, return for the Shootout this year.

George Washington, Huntington, South Charleston and Wheeling Park are the top Class AAA teams in the Shootout. SC has been the state runner-up the past two seasons.

Chapmanville, which last season made the state tournament for the first time since the early 1990s; Scott, the state runner-up the past two seasons; and Tolsia highlight the Class AA field. Mingo Central, the consolidation of Burch, Gilbert, Matewan and Williamson, will make its debut at the Shootout.

SC's Brittany Gordon, Park's Emily Puskarich, Berkeley Springs' Diedra Burch, Scott's Makenzie White, St. Joe's Mychal Johnson and Buffalo's Hannah Boyer are returning all-state first-team selections expected to play.

Admission is $3 per person for each day's session of games.
