WVU Tech leaving Mid-South Conference
Advertiser

West Virginia University Tech will withdraw its membership in the Mid-South Conference effective June 30, 2012, athletic director Frank Pergolizzi announced Thursday.

Tech will retain its membership in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics as an independent institution. Tech, which is currently a provisional member, will apply for membership in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association for the 2012-13 academic year.

Tech athletic teams are currently ineligible for the Mid-South and NAIA postseason competition as a result of the program's 2010 application for NCAA membership. That status will continue through the 2012-13 year because of Tech's 2011 application to the NCAA. Pergolizzi said the decision to pursue NCAA and West Virginia Conference membership at a later date is still an option.
