The University of Charleston baseball team dropped a doubleheader Wednesday to Seton Hill in Greensburg, Pa. The Golden Eagles fell 7-3 in the first game and 9-4 in the nightcap.
In the opener, UC starter Patrick Chiaramonte was tagged for six runs on eight hits in 42/3 innings. Igor Molina went 3-for-3 and Ryan Hathaway scored a pair of runs for the Golden Eagles.
Dylan Saunders allowed five runs on six hits in 21/3 innings for Charleston (12-13, 4-6 West Virginia Conference) in the second game. Ryan Foster went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored for UC.
WVSU BASEBALL: West Virginia State dropped a West Virginia Conference doubleheader to Fairmont State Wednesday at Mary Lou Retton Park in Fairmont. The Yellow Jackets fell 2-1 in the opener and 6-0 in the second game.
State's David Myers gave up two runs on three hits in five innings in the first game. Garrett Kiser had the lone RBI for the Jackets.
In the second game, former Yellow Jacket Shaun Vernesoni hit a three-run home for Fairmont State (10-12, 7-7 WVC). Starter Allen Rimer allowed five runs on seven hits in four innings for WVSU (7-16, 5-8), while Bill Smith went 2-for-3 with a double.
TECH BASEBALL: WVU Tech fell in seven innings 11-1 to Bluefield in Bluefield, Va. Sammy McCoy allowed two runs on eight hits in 51/3 innings for the Golden Bears (16-17), while Tech's bullpen yielded nine runs (five earned) on nine hits in 12/3 innings. Tech committed five errors, four in the bottom of the seventh. Zac Russell-Myers went 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs for Bluefield.
TECH SOFTBALL: WVU Tech split a pair of games with Virginia State in Ettrick, Va. The Golden Bears lost 3-2 in the opener but won 4-3 in the second game.
In the first game, Tech's Jacquelyn Wood was charged with three unearned runs after Ashley Bushrod's bases clearing triple off of Jessica Stapleton. Ashley Gibbard and Ali Holmes each drove in one run for WVU Tech.
In the second game, Stapleton went the distance and struck out nine. Laura Hensley had two RBIs for the Golden Bears (16-7).
