George Washington's Malik Hampton, Austin Rosencrance and Tyler Williams, St. Albans' Jake Bruner and Zach Walke, Hurricane's Eric Campbell and Nick Rice, Winfield's Andy Ellison, South Charleston's Corey Ellis, Capital's Mark Latta and Riverside's Travis Wong were part of the South Cardinals roster, which was released Friday. Campbell and Rosencrance were Class AAA all-state first-team selections after this past season.
The North Bears feature 25 all-state first-team choices among the 37 players on the initial roster. Martinsburg's Brandon Ashenfelter, who led the Bulldogs to their second straight AAA state title and finished second in the Kennedy Award voting, Roane County's Dylan Cottrell, who was the offensive captain of the AA all-state team and finished fourth in Kennedy voting, and Martinsburg's Logan Jenkins, the AAA all-state defensive captain, highlight the selections.
The South has 13 all-state first-team picks among its 37 players. Wayne's Allen Bryant, who was the AA all-state offensive captain, is among those selections. (See Page 2B for complete rosters.)

nnWVU SPORTS: Sean O'Hare's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted St. John's past West Virginia 7-6 in baseball Friday in Queens, N.Y. Ryan McBroom went 2-for-5 with three RBIs for the Mountaineers (11-17, 0-4). McBroom and Matt Frazer had back-to-back solo homers in the fourth inning.
WVU's Sydney Cummings placed second in the high jump Friday at the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas. Cummings' jump of 1.75 meters qualified her for the NCAA East Regional in May.nnNIKE CHAMPIONSHIP CLINIC: Jim Clayton, the founder and CEO of Sports City U in Hurricane, will be a featured speaker at the Nike Championship Clinic April 15 in Pittsburgh. Other speakers at the clinic include hall of fame coach Bob Knight, North Carolina coach Roy Williams, West Virginia coach Bob Huggins and current Florida and former Marshall coach Billy Donovan.
nnTECH BASEBALL: WVU Tech dropped a doubleheader to St. Catharine Friday at Epling Field in East Bank. The Golden Bears fell 4-1 in the opener and 2-1 in the second game.
Jeremy Turpin drove in two runs to lead St. Catharine in the first game. Kevin Bocock drove in the lone run for Tech.
In the night cap, Juan Moriel and Joey Xavier each had one RBI for the Patriots (24-13). Jose Soto went 2-for-3 with an RBI for WVU Tech (16-19).
nnKNECHTLY HIRED AT SUGARWOOD: Brian Knechtly has been hired as the head golf professional at Sugarwood Golf Course in Lavalette. Knechtly has spent the last year as the assistant pro at Edgewood Country Club in Charleston.
