Kip Brewer tossed six strong innings and went 2-for-2 at the plate as host Nitro defeated Chapmanville 4-2 in high school baseball Wednesday.
Tyler Barton had three hits for the Wildcats (8-1), and Tyler Cox lifted a two-run homer for the Tigers (6-5).
WAHAMA 3, EASTERN 2: Tyler Nutter went 2-for-2 with an RBI and Isaac Lee and Kane Roush each added two hits for the host White Falcons (5-6). David Warner went 2-for-4 for Eastern, Ohio (3-4).
CLAY 15, GILMER 4: The visiting Panthers struck for eight runs in the top of the second to blow the game open. Chris Cole went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for Clay (5-6) while Adam Taylor ripped three hits. Shawn Talbert and Nathan Allison had two hits apiece for the Titans (8-3).
POCA SWEEPS: Matt Chandler tossed a one-hit shutout as host Poca downed Tolsia 10-0 in a five-inning, mercy-rule win in the nightcap to complete a doubleheader sweep.
David Taylor and Evan McClanahan drove in three runs apiece as the Dots pounded the Rebels 18-1 in four innings in the opener. Cam Cottrill went 3-for-3 with a double, triple and three RBIs for Poca (9-5) in the second game and Jake Payne tripled in three runs. Tyler Copley singled in the first game for Tolsia and Donald Picklesimer had a hit in the second game.
WILLIAMSTOWN 3, CATHOLIC 2: Brandon Yost drove in two runs for visiting Williamstown, which rallied to score two runs in the top of the seventh with none on and two out. Rocco Wilcox went 2-for-4 for Charleston Catholic (7-3), while Drew Cable knocked in one run.
RIVERSIDE 13, CAPITAL 3: The Warriors pounded out 17 hits in disposing of the visiting Cougars in six innings. Doug Prather went 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs for Riverside (8-6) while Alex Daugherty legged out three hits and drove in two runs and Aaron Halstead and Zach Petry had two RBIs each. Cade Quickle went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for Capital.
RIVERSIDE 4, NICHOLAS 1: Trevor Davis scattered five singles and didn't allow an earned run as the host Warriors knocked off Nicholas County. Drew Mack doubled in a run for Riverside.
SOCASTEE 10, GW 7: Socastee (S.C.) plated five runs in the bottom of the sixth for a come-from-behind win in the Mingo Bay Classic at Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Patriots led 7-5 before Socastee's outburst. Joe Wong went 2-for-2 with a round-tripper and three RBIs for GW (10-5).
