Asheville chased Power pitcher Zack Dodson (0-1) after 42/3 innings as he gave up seven runs (five earned) on six hits while striking out three and walking three in getting tagged with the loss.
Ben Alsup (1-0) went six innings for the Tourists (2-3), allowing five runs on 12 hits, striking out three and walking only one in earning the win.
Asheville's Samuel Mende went 2-for-4, including a solo home run in the third, and drove in a pair of runs while Trevor Story blasted a two-run shot in the seventh. Jared Simon also drove in two runs for Asheville while Harold Riggins went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and RBIs.
Alen Hanson led the Power offense, going 3-for-5 with a double and a solo home run in the fourth. Dan Gamache added a pair of hits for West Virginia, including a double.
The Power (1-4) got on the board first when Jodanieli Carvajal scored on a Gregory Polanco groundout. Asheville responded in the bottom of the first with two runs.
