It was the fifth straight loss for the Power, which went 1-6 on its season-opening road trip before returning to Charleston for tonight's home opener vs. Greenville at Appalachian Power Park. (See story, Page 1B.)
The Tourists (4-3) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first, capped by an RBI triple by Brian Humphries. The Power reclaimed one run in the top of the third, but Asheville's Sam Mende led off the bottom half of the inning with a home run.
The Tourists added three more runs in the fourth. Power starter Mike Jefferson (1-1) was tagged for six runs on five hits with three walks in 31/3 innings.
The Power got a three-run homer from Josh Bell in the fifth and a two-run clout by Greg Polanco in the eighth. Asheville touched Power reliever Rinku Singh for three runs in two innings.
Geoff Parker (1-1) picked up the win for the Tourists, allowing one run on one hit in 21/3 innings of relief. Vianney Mayo gave up three runs on five hits and struck out five in 42/3 innings in the start for Asheville.
