WVU linebacker Barber has bead on Big 12

MORGANTOWN - West Virginia linebacker Jared Barber knows all about the Big 12.

That might read a little odd, considering he hails from Davie High in Mocksville, N.C. But . . .

"As a little kid my favorite team was Texas," he said. "So that's going to be pretty interesting."

And yet another article about one of West Virginia's three star recruits while at Texas they're having trouble finding enough media space to talk about all of their five star recruits.

But I guess the media is just trying to do their part in selling tickets.

Penn St and 5 star recruits
Miamu Hurricanes and 5 star recruits
Texas and Oklahoma 5 star recruits

Yes, West Virginia newspapers will talk about our recruits......and we may win a few Big 12 games to boot. At least I seem to recall a BCS game vs the mighty (5 star recruit filled) Sooners a few years back

CAIIG - These guys chose to come to WVU, who cares how many stars they have. They are Mountaineers and I am behind them 100%. The "five star recruits" at Texas chose to go to Texas and Texas can have them. If you covet them so much, why don't you go cheer for Texas and post on their boards.

CAIIG, another of those star envy commentors. Star envious fans of football should go the a site called "Bleacher Report" and find out about their power ratings. Find out just how important 5 stars are in the power ratings of college football ratings. Stars*****sell tickets, get TV ratings and get coaches fired. Wins of conference championships and BCS bowls dictate how good your recruiting is. These are utilized to help determine a teams power ratings. The envy of certain individuals is almost palpable. WVU is all over the media. The New York Times is writing about us (positive). The Bleacher Report & many major papers around the country have reports about us daily. Praise for our star laden cast is bountiful from multiple sources. However, I will say this, as you brought Texas to light. I assure you and everyone in the Big XII along with Texas are concerned about WVU's 3-star athletes. WVU will be scary good & everyone knows it with their 3 stars recruits & 5 star results.

Q: What is the difference between WVU football players and those in the SEC and/or other Big XII schools?
A: At WVU, the players have to pay for their own drugs and alcohol.

Lets not loose track of the stated goal - To play for the National Championship. So I note that teams that consistently play for the Championship are stocked with 4 & 5 star recruits.

And which team would you rather coach? One with a load of 3 star recruits or one with 5 star recruits?

And if you think Coach did a great job against Clemson and all of their high class recruits just imagine what he could do with more 4 & 5 star recruits.

And yes I remember the Oklahoma game but I also remember a game against Florida. Better recruits would lead to a more consistent team in the post season.

So sure its good to have pride in the Mountaineers but they need to improve their recruiting to be a major player year after year.

I would rather have a three star recruit that could be coached, than a five star that was struck on himself and thought he was the only person that could play football. The best thing that we could do, is stop the star gazing and get behind the team. The twelfth man would be a good player for WVU. Surely better than one who keeps looking at the stars.

JT Thomas was a 2* recruit and I'd take him over many other so-called 5*s. Clemson had 4 and 5* linebackers and they could not stop WVU after the first quarter.
