Prep baseball: Hoover knocks off Magnolia
Tristan Fields went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI to help Herbert Hoover knock off Magnolia 11-5 Saturday in high school baseball at Sissonville.
Fields also picked up the win after striking out eight in seven innings. Hunter White, Austin Thomas and Zach Mullins each knocked in two runs for the Class AA No. 3 Huskies (14-3).
Tanner Hanna had three RBIs for Magnolia (7-6).
Bentley Knight went 3-for-4 with two doubles and five RBIs for Madonna, who only led 6-5 before the uprising in the fifth. J.R. Stricklin legged out three hits, including a triple, and drove in two runs for the Indians.
Alex Mareske earned the pitching victory for the Wildcats (9-3) with relief help from Oney. The Skyhawks (4-10) received two hits each from Cody Blevins, Devin Bayer and Colton Hammond.
Nelson McKown added four hits for the Fighting Irish (14-4), while Rocco Wilcox contributed three hits. Nick Namann doubled for the Maroon Knights.
Regan Patton went 3-for-4 with a double, home run and three RBIs for George Washington.
Tyler Nutter went a combined 4-for-7 for the visiting White Falcons, including a home run in the first game. Tyler Roush added four hits for Wahama (9-9) on the night.
Dakota Watson contributed three hits over both games including a pair of doubles for Yellowjackets (12-4), while Josh DeBolt went 2-for-4 with a double in the second game.
