Prep softball: Buffalo wins Best of the Best crown

Ali Burdette went 4-for-5 with a double and a home run as Buffalo won the Class A championship game at the Best of the Best Classic with an 11-4 victory over Moorefield.

Casey Cunningham was 4-for-4 with two doubles for the Bison (18-4). Taylor Zuber hit a home run and Kelsey Hines went 3-for-3 with a triple for Moorefield (16-2).

  • BUFFALO 8, VALLEY 1: Casey Cunningham went 4-for-4 with two doubles for Buffalo at the Best of the Best Classic. Ali Burdette went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles for the Bison.
  • BUFFALO 7, MAN 3: Chelsey Parkins went 2-for-4 with a triple and Casey Cunningham was 3-for-3 with a double for Buffalo. Summer Sword and Taylor Tomblin each went 2-for-3 for Man.
  • HURRICANE 3, PARK. SOUTH 1: Cassie Sargent went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI for Hurricane at the Best of the Best Classic at Buffalo. Courtney Rogers registered nine strikeouts for the Redskins (20-4).
  • Genna Trippett went 2-for-3 with a solo homer for Parkersburg South.

  • JAMES MONROE 9, RIVERSIDE 1: Bekka Ratliff surrendered one run on two hits in seven innings for James Monroe at Greenbrier East. Haley Hunter went 2-for-3 for the Mavericks. Felicia Burton had a double for Riverside.
  • RIVERSIDE 4, GREEN. EAST 0: Morgan Long and Sara Winter each went 2-for-3 with a double for visiting Riverside. Winter allowed only four singles to pick up the win for the Warriors (9-8).
  • CLAY SWEEPS SOUTH HARRISON: Clay County swept a doubleheader from South Harrison. The host Panthers took the first game 9-1 and the nightcap 16-2 in three innings.
  • Amber Sontos had 10 strikeouts for Clay County (5-12) in the opener, while Corina Gray went 4-for-4 with two doubles and Gracen Samples was 2-for-3 with a triple in the second game.

    Hanna Burnside went 2-for-2 for South Harrison (1-14) in the second game.

    Friday's game

  • PARKERSBURG 7, GW 6: Melanie Nething had a triple and three RBIs for host Parkersburg. Jessica Blair went 2-for-4 and had two RBIs for the Big Reds (6-16).
  • Allie McKown went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs and Rachel Ward knocked in two for George Washington (7-11).
