Prep softball roundup: Haynes holds Nitro hitless, SA wins 10-0

Ali Haynes fired a no-hitter through six innings with eight strikeouts as visiting St. Albans shut out Nitro 10-0 Monday in high school softball.

Nitro Chelsie Hall's line drive over shortstop off Red Dragons reliever Madi Marshall with two outs in the seventh broke up the no-hitter. SA's Haili McCown went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Alyssa Bonham legged out three hits and drove in a run.

  • POCA, SISSONVILLE SPLIT: Dee Dee Loftis hit for the cycle as the visiting Indians downed the Dots 12-10 to salvage the nightcap of a doubleheader. Miranda Linville fired a five-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts as Poca defeated Sissonville 5-0 in the opener.
  • Loftis went 4-for-5 with a double, triple, three-run homer and four RBIs for the Indians in the second game. Linville also doubled in two runs in the first game for the Dots while Madi McGrew went 2-for-2 with a solo round-tripper and Jordan Baria singled in two runs.

  • SC 3, SPRING VALLEY 0: Aaliyah Phillips went 3-for-3 with a double as South Charleston secured a home win. Alli Burdette struck out 15 and added a double and an RBI for the Black Eagles (8-7). Morgan Blanton had the lone hit for the Timberwolves.
  • RIVERSIDE 10, MINGO 0: Sara Winter tossed a one-hitter for the host Warriors in three innings. Winter also pounded out two hits, including a double, and knocked in a run for Riverside (10-8) while Destini Diegert and Chance Upton each doubled. Kaitlyn Lester singled for Mingo Central.
  • VAN 14, CATHOLIC 13: Stevie White went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the host Bulldogs. Samantha Busch went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for Charleston Catholic (2-11) and Emma Sovick added two hits and drove home two.
