David Kandilas went 3-for-5 with a grand slam as the Asheville Tourists defeated the West Virginia Power 12-7 Tuesday night at Appalachian Power Park.
The Tourists (9-4) erupted for seven runs, including Kandilas' bomb, in the top of the seventh.
Porfirio Lopez (0-1), who came in to pitch for the Power in the seventh, was shelled for six runs on one hit, three walks and two hit-batsmen in two-thirds of an inning.
Power starter Matt Benedict gave up two runs on five hits in six innings, while Vince Payne allowed four runs on six hits in the final 21/3 innings.
Chris Jensen (1-0) picked up the win for Asheville, allowing four runs on eight hits and striking out six in 61/3 innings.
Junior Sosa went 3-for-4 and scored three runs for the Power (5-7), while Alen Henson went 2-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and two runs scored.
The Power and the Tourists close out their three-game set at 11:05 today at Appalachian Power Park. Zach Fuesser (0-0, 5.14) is scheduled to start for West Virginia against Asheville's Daniel Winkler (1-1, 10.38).
