The 2013 Conference USA men's and women's basketball tournaments are likely to be awarded to Tulsa, Okla., the Gazette has learned. The league's Board of Directors, consisting of presidents and chancellors of the schools, will vote on the site in June.
That appears to solve a dilemma caused by the departure after 2012-13 of Memphis, Central Florida and two other schools. Originally, Memphis and Orlando, Fla., were the only two cities to submit bids.
Memphis hosted the tournament from 2005-09, and then it moved to Tulsa in 2010 and El Paso, Texas, in 2011 before coming back to Memphis this year. Tulsa has an NBA-caliber arena in the BOK Center, but the fan support in 2010 drew criticism.
