King elevated on Marshall hoops staff

After spending two seasons as a graduate assistant at Marshall, Josh King has been promoted to a full-time assistant basketball coach under coach Tom Herrion.

He replaces Jorge Fernandez, who left the staff in May, citing family reasons.

King, who played for East Carolina and Division II Eckerd, has coached at Massachusetts-Lowell and Vassar. He helped with day-to-day operations as he pursued his master's degree in adult technical education.

  • On the court, DeAndre Kane is changing his jersey number from 24 to 50 for his junior season, in honor of his father, Calvin. The elder Kane died in February, as his son was leading the Thundering Herd to the NIT.
  • Reserve big man J.P. Kambola will switch to No. 31. Junior-college signee Elijah Pittman will take No. 24.
