West Virginia Power infielder Eric Avila was named the South Atlantic League player of the week Monday.

Avila batted .423 (11-for-26) over seven games with four home runs, four doubles, nine RBIs and scored seven runs from Aug. 13-20. It's the first time this season that a Power player has been honored by the league.

Over the weekend, Avila became the only second Power player in the franchise's history to hit a homer in four consecutive games.

The La Romana, Dominican Republic native is hitting .285 over 40 games with the Power. He was the opening day third baseman for the second consecutive season, but spent a portion of the year in extended spring training. Since returning to West Virginia's roster on June 14, Avila is hitting .298 with eight homers and 23 RBIs.
