Soccer roundup: Sheldon leads Winfield boys past Riverside

Preston Sheldon netted three goals to lead Winfield to an 8-0 win over visiting Riverside Tuesday in boys high school soccer.

Steven Taylor, Tyler Duty, Jacob Foster, Ronnie Beale and Nathan Keefe each added a goal for Winfield (5-0). Riverside (1-3) was outshot 20-5.

  • HOOVER 1, SCOTT 0: Jacob Weese's second-half goal on an assist from Vladimir Moore helped Herbert Hoover pick up its first win. Brett Strickland made eight saves for the Huskies (1-3).
  • GREEN. EAST 2, PIKEVIEW 0: Jacob Baker converted a penalty kick in the 59th minute as host Greenbrier East downed PikeView. Stefan Marr-Madariaga added a second-half goal for the Spartans (4-0-1). Mac Brackenrich stopped seven shots for East while Austin Cordell made three saves for PikeView (3-1).

  • WINFIELD 8, ST. JOSEPH 0: Keeper Faith Burchet recorded her third shutout of the season as Winfield picked up a road win. Emily Cole, Katie Bryant and Josee Erlandson each netted two goals for the Generals (4-0) while Jayne Lawman and Mackenzie Pritt also scored.
  • RIVERSIDE 7, SC 0: Maddie McDermott tallied three goals and Erin Hendricks and Kaitlyn Murphy chipped in two apiece for host Riverside (3-0-1). Samantha Powers had one save in the shutout.
  • POINT 6, LINCOLN CO. 0: For Point (2-1-0), Ashtyn Wedge, Carlee Dabney, Allison Smith, Cassie Jordan and Sydney Raike each tallied a goal for Point Pleasant (2-1-0). Dabney also had two assists. An own goal by Lincoln County (1-3-0) accounted for Point's sixth score.
  • HOOVER 5, SCOTT 0: Hannah Schoolcraft netted four goals to propel Herbert Hoover to a road win. Cassie Hammes had the other goal for the Huskies (2-2) and Bailey Aab and Autumn Cantley combined for two saves. Scott fell to 2-4.
