Ukrainian Gerun signs with WVU men's hoops

Volodymyr Gerun has signed a grant in aid to attend West Virginia University in 2012-13, Mountaineers basketball coach Bob Huggins announced Friday.

The 6-foot-10, 240-pound forward from the Ukraine will be a sophomore and have three years of eligibility remaining. Gerun attended the Canarias Basketball Academy in the Canary Islands off the northwest coast of Africa last year. He has also played in the Ukraine Superleague.

Gerun led Ukraine in scoring (18.2 points per game), rebounding (11.1) and blocks (2.1) during nine games at the 2011 under-18 European Championships. He was named MVP of the 2010 under-16 European Championships after averaging 17.3 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.4 blocks.
