High school football roundup: Nicholas County cruises past Poca

Wil Mays ran for two touchdowns as host Nicholas County downed Poca 27-7 in high school football on Friday.

Mays rushed 18 times for 103 yards to lead the Grizzlies (1-1), and quarterback Tyler Sagraves ran for a TD.

For the Dots (1-1), T.T. Loudin carried seven times for 42 yards. Poca quarterback Jake Payne went 12-for-22 for 158 yards with one interception and rushed 16 times for 37 yards.

  • MIDLAND 49, PARKERSBURG 10: Lowell Farley rushed for 182 yards on 12 carries and Steve Matthews picked up 137 on 11 tries, leading Cabell Midland past Parkersburg at Stadium Field.
  • Farley scored one touchdown, on a 98-yard run, and Matthews had three TDs, on runs of 4, 34 and 5 yards.

    Cabell Midland (2-0) rushed for 419 yards and passed for another 126. The Big Reds (1-1) picked up 129 on the ground and 167 through the air. Adam Lindamood topped the Big Reds with 83 yards on 17 carries and scored their only touchdown on a 33-yard run in the fourth quarter.

  • MEADOW BRIDGE 27, TUG VALLEY 8: Jacob Parker rushed for 296 yards on 35 carries and scored two touchdowns as Meadow Bridge (2-0) defeated visiting Tug Valley.
  • Parker scored in the first quarter on a 14-yard run and broke loose for a 78-yarder in the fourth.

    Meadow Bridge's Shane Harless ran 27 yards for a score, and David Gainer returned a punt 27 yards for a TD.

    Jessie Mays scored for Tug Valley (1-1) on a 5-yard run.

  • RITCHIE 42, ROANE 20: Tyler Reed caught two touchdown passes and ran for another score in Ritchie County's victory at Roane County.
  • Reed, who rushed for 125 yards on five carries, caught TD passes of 5 and 25 yards from Trevor Shepler and scored on a 46-yard run.

    Ritchie's Devon Jones rushed for 91 yards on eight carries, including a 12-yard touchdown run.

    Hunter Bradley scored twice for Roane on runs of 1 and 20 yards. Roane's John Ash carried 21 times for 94 yards, and Cody May added 85 yards on 17 attempts.

    Both teams are 1-1.

  • BRAXTON 20, CLAY 12: Down by five points in the fourth quarter, Braxton County rallied for two touchdowns to defeat visiting Clay County.
  • Jacob Yanero, who totaled 158 rushing yards on 16 carries, scored on runs of 25 and 39 yards to lead Braxton (2-0). Yanero also connected with Derrick Barnette on a 57-yard scoring pass.

    Will Stewart and Jordan Lucas scored for Clay (0-2). Lucas, whose TD run covered 56 yards, finished with 147 yards on 20 carries.
