Advertiser

David Smith was named the head women's basketball coach at West Virginia State on Thursday.

Smith replaces Renee Bostic, who announced in July that she was stepping down to accept the position of athletic director at Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Smith, who has been in coaching the past 30 years, spent the last 14 years at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Ky., where his teams posted a record of 249-156. Smith has compiled a career mark of 575-271, ranking seventh all-time among NCAA Division II coaches in number of wins.
