Roundup: Hurricane boys, girls earn soccer shutouts

Class AAA No. 1 Hurricane beat host St. Albans 7-0 in boys soccer Thursday behind two goals each from Avery Meadows and Alex White.

Felipe Thompson, Trevor Cunningham and Chris Smith also added goals for the Redskins (6-0). St Albans falls to 1-5-1 with the loss.

  • SC 3, GREENBRIER EAST 0: Host South Charleston improved to 3-2, getting goals from Kwesi Wilkerson and Jonah Cosby, as well as an own-goal from the Spartans (4-2-1). SC will make up Wednesday's weather-shortened game with Huntington at 9 a.m. on Sept. 15.
  • WINFIELD 4, GW 0: Steven Taylor scored a pair of goals as host Class AAA No. 5 Winfield blanked No. 8 George Washington in a matchup of top-10 teams. Preston Sheldon and Ronnie Beale had one goal apiece for Winfield (6-1). The Generals outshot the Patriots 7-4.
  • CATHOLIC 6, OAK HILL 0: Joey Trupo tallied three goals as Charleston Catholic earned a home win. William Scriptunas, Thad Jameson and Luke Smith added one goal each for the Class AA-A No. 1 Irish (7-0).
  • HOOVER 1, NICHOLAS 1: Jeremy Hammes scored with an assist from Andrew Mercer as Herbert Hoover (2-4-1) tied Nicholas County. Jacob Lope-trone scored an unassisted goal for Nicholas. Huskies goalkeeper Brett Stickland made seven saves while Nicholas' Cordell McClung made 10.
  • SISSONVILLE 10, SCOTT 1: Anthony Rinehart recorded three goals and two assists as Class AA-A No. 2 Sissonville secured the road win. Josh Rawson netted a pair of goals for the Indians (6-1), while Hunter White, Wynston Agnew, Caleb Calhoun, Andy Minsker, and Dylan Asbury each had a goal. Zach Lester scored the lone goal for the Skyhawks.

  • HURRICANE 4, HUNTINGTON 0: Brittany Minor tallied a pair of goals, while Callie McClanahan and Abby Watson each had one for the Class AAA No. 2 Redskins (7-0). Hurricane outshot the visiting Highlanders 17-1.
  • WINFIELD 6, ASHLAND 1: Emily Cole recorded four goals as Class AAA No. 3 Winfield rolled to a road win. Micharae Thompson and Mackenzie Pritt each netted single goals for the Generals (6-0). Charity Collins had the lone goal for Ashland Paul Blazer (Ky.).
  • GW 2, WOODROW 0: Charlie Lucente and Stephanie Kelly tallied one goal apiece as Class AAA No. 9 George Washington notched a road win. GW outshot Woodrow Wilson 25-4.
  • PIKEVIEW 4, POCA 2: Laura Hill scored all of PikeView's four goals as the Panthers (6-2) secured a home win. Harley Hutchins and Madi McGrew found the back of the net for the Dots (3-4). Kendall Sayer stopped five shots for Poca, while Kristen Brinkley made eight saves for PikeView (6-2).
  • RAVENSWOOD 3, HOOVER 2: Erica Cullen netted three goals as the Red Devils notched a home win over Herbert Hoover. Hannah Schoolcraft posted a pair of goals for the Huskies (4-4). Ravenswood outshot Hoover 27-15.
