Roundup: Brooks is Wendy's Tour Player of Year

Mullens' Derek Brooks took second place in Tuesday's Wendy's Amateur Tour event at The Resort at Glad Springs to clinch the tour's Player of the Year honor.

Brooks shot a 2-over-par 74 to finish one stroke behind Clarksburg's Michael Stewart on Tuesday. Elizabeth's Sammi Moore won the women's Player of the Year award.

St. Albans' Matthrew Spry and Tornado's Ed Schoettker won this year's Frosty Cup, the tour's four-ball competition.

  • WVU SPORTS: Following a scoreless tie at Penn State and a 4-2 win at home against Oakland last week, the West Virginia men's soccer team moved up to No. 21 in Soccer America's Top 25. The Mountaineers held the No. 22 spot last week.

  • West Virginia's Andy Bevin earned College Sports Madness Mid-American Conference player of the week honors for his efforts in the win against Oakland last week. Bevin ended a 333-minute scoreless drought for WVU with a goal in the fourth minute of play against Oakland, then assisted on the final goal of the match.
