Prep roundup: Hurricane boys defeat Fairmont Senior 5-1

Felipe Thompson netted three goals Saturday afternoon as host Hurricane remained unbeaten with a 5-1 boys soccer victory against Fairmont Senior.

Trevor Cunningham and Ian Miles also had goals for the Redskins (10-0), while Alex White added two assists and keeper Brady Lawman stopped three shots.

For the Polar Bears (6-3-2), Justin Sloan scored and keeper Matt Bartrug had 15 saves. Hurricane outshot Fairmont 35-4.

  • CATHOLIC 4, ST. JOSEPH 2: Sam Revercomb had two goals to lead Charleston Catholic to a win in the boys championship game of the Bishop's Cup against St. Joseph at the YMCA Kennedy Center in Huntington. Adam Fox and William Scriptunas added goals for Catholic while St. Joseph had scores from Stephen Jenkins and Lakin Brooks.
  • RIVERSIDE 3, SISSONVILLE 2: Cole Goode tallied twice to pace the host Warriors (2-7). Cameron Norris also scored for Riverside, and keeper Austin Ballengee stopped a penalty kick with two minutes left to ice it. Anthony Rinehart and Sam Gary had goals for Sissonville (8-3-1), which trailed 2-1 at halftime.
  • SC 2, HUNTINGTON 0: Hunter Moles turned aside six shots as host No. 11 South Charleston disposed of the No. 2 Higlanders in a matchup of Class AAA state-ranked teams. Jared Butler and Jonah Cosby scored one goal apiece for SC (5-3-0).
  • CAPITAL 2, PRINCETON 1: Christian Huffman and Tyler Shafer tallied one goal each to pace the host No. 20 Cougars (4-4-1). Austin Smith scored for the No. 17 Tigers.
  • GW 1, UNIVERSITY 0: Noah Miller scored on an assist from Peter Nelson with about 18 minutes left to lift visiting George Washington. Garrett Phillips had four saves to preserve the shutout, including two diving stops for the Patriots (7-3-1). The Hawks suffered their first loss and fell to 6-1-4.
  • WINFIELD 2, GREEN. EAST 0: Preston Sheldon and Ronnie Beale netted one goal apiece for the host Generals. Bryce Boggs made one save to post the shutout for Winfield (8-1). Noah Dye (10) and Mac Brakenrich (two) combined for 12 stops for Greenbrier East (4-6-1).

  • CENTRAL WINS BISHOP'S CUP: Charleston Catholic and Wheeling Central were tied at 4 after regulation in the Bishop's Cup girls championship game, with Central taking the title with a 3-1 win in penalty kicks.
  • For Charleston Catholic (6-1-2), Caroline Dundervill scored twice with Payton Mullen and Sophie Bumgarner adding goals in regulation. Wheeling Central's Bailey Clark scored twice in regulation with Ashton Cross and Cate Calissie scoring the other goals. Bailey Clark, Aspen Matlock and Ashten Clark converted penalty kicks for Central.

  • HOOVER 2, ST. JOE 1: Hannah Schoolcraft and Leslie Taylor tallied second-half goals as visiting Herbert Hoover rallied to earn a win at the Kennedy Center in Huntington. Bailey Aab stopped 10 shots for the Huskies (7-4). Libby Goetz had the goal for St. Joseph.
