West Virginia offensive lineman Jeff Braun was announced as one of 147 semifinalists for the National Football Foundation's Scholar-Athlete Awards.

Braun, a senior from Westminster, Md., started every game in 2011 for the Mountaineers at left guard and moved to right guard this season. Other notable players named as semifinalists include Southern California quarterback Matt Barkley, Alabama offensive lineman Barrett Jones and Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o.

The NFF Awards Committee will select up to 16 scholarship recipients with the results announced on Oct. 25.

Each recipient will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship and become a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, given to the scholar-athlete of the year.
