Prep football roundup: Parkersburg turns back Riverside 38-35
Adam Roberts completed 9 of 13 passes for 149 yards, including three touchdown strikes, as Class AAA No. 17 Parkersburg edged Riverside 38-35 in Parkersburg in high school football on Friday.
Parkersburg's Kwante Johnson caught three passes for 73 yards - each for a touchdown for the Big Reds (4-2). Adam Lindamood carried 25 times for 167 yards and one TD.
Trevor Rumberg led the Riverside passing attack, going 19 for 28 for 318 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Rumberg also ran for three scores.
Marcus Reed caught nine passes for 225 yards for the Warriors (1-4), including an 83-yard touchdown pass from Rumberg in the second quarter.
Indians quarterback Austin Crawford completed 8 of 20 passes for 73 yards and one interception, and Tolsia quarterback Dakota Robertson threw for 66 yards on 5 of 7 passing. Robertson also had 10 carries for 44 yards and a touchdown.
Tolsia's Dawson Presley ran for a game-high 117 yards on 11 attempts and a touchdown.
Sissonville (2-3) had just 147 yards of offense in the game with only 58 in the second half. The Rebels are 3-3.
Brooke, which trailed 27-14 at halftime, faced a 33-28 deficit in the game's final minutes and had a first-and-goal at the Point Pleasant 1. The Bruins (1-5), however, needed four tries to score, giving them their first victory of the season.
Point Pleasant (4-1), which started the night ranked No. 4 in Class AAA, took a quick 13-0 lead on Tylun Campbell's 5-yard run and Marquez Griffin's 40-yarder.
Point Pleasant quarterback Aden Yates threw TD passes of 20 yards to Campbell and 29 yards to Brycen Reynolds. Yates also scored on a 1-yard TD carry.
Brooke's Buchmelter scored three times on runs of 28, 2 and 1 yard and completed a 51-yard pass to Thomas Cole.
After leading 6-0 at halftime on Walker Lawson's 21-yard run, Webster (3-3) scored two TDs in the third quarter - on Joe Collins' 9-yard run and David Muzny's 6-yard carry - to take an 18-0 lead.
Collins led the Webster ground game with 21 carries and 118 yards, and Lawson added 90 yards on nine attempts.
Joey Lacek ran for 68 yards on nine carries to lead Liberty Raleigh (4-2), which started play at No. 8 in Class AA.
n BRAXTON COUNTY 8, LIBERTY 7: Jacob Yanero scored on an 8-yard run in the second overtime, then added the 2-point conversion to lead Braxton County past Liberty in Clarksburg.
Earlier in the second OT, Liberty took a 7-0 lead on Ty Moss' 20-yard run and David Moore's extra-point kick.
Yanero carried 31 times for 183 yards for Braxton (3-3). Liberty fell to 1-5.
