Soccer roundup: Catholic girls top SC 5-0

Sophie Bumgarner netted a goal as Class AA-A No. 7 Charleston Catholic blanked South Charleston 5-0 in girls soccer Monday at Schoenbaum Stadium.

Hanna George, Peyton Keener, Katie Pulliam and Quincy McKown also had goals for the Fighting Irish (7-4-2).

  • HUNTINGTON 4, NITRO 2: Braddick Price scored two goals as host Huntington registered a win over Nitro in the Mountain State Athletic Conference seventh-place game on Monday. Morgan Hensley provided the go-ahead goal in the 73rd minute and Leah Levy added a score five minutes later for Hurricane. Autumn Griggs scored a pair of goals for the Wildcats, including one in the fifth minute that put Nitro briefly ahead 2-1.

  • HURRICANE 8, LINCOLN CO. 0: Felipe Thompson netted three goals as Class AAA No. 1 Hurricane cruised to a home win. Ian Miles, Alex White, Austin Conley, Tim Hayslett and Jonathan Lovejoy also scored for the Redskins (15-0-1). Lincoln County (3-9-1) was outshot 30-4.
  • WINFIELD 2, NITRO 0: Steven Taylor tallied a pair of goals as Class AAA No. 3 Winfield blanked No. 12 Nitro. Bryce Boggs made eight saves for the host Generals (12-1-2), while Lee Klocke stopped five shots for the Wildcats (9-7).
