Roundup: Hurricane, Catholic boys hold No. 1 spots
Hurricane and Charleston Catholic remain the top-ranked boys soccer teams in the Class AAA and AA-A state coaches rankings, respectively, Monday. Morgantown and Sissonville hold the No. 1 spot in AAA and AA-A girls, respectively.
Winfield (third), George Washington (fourth), South Charleston (eighth), Nitro (12th) and Capital (20th) were the only other Kanawha Valley teams ranked in AAA boys. In AA-A boys, Sissonville was eighth and Herbert Hoover was 20th.
Hurricane (second), George Washington (fourth), Winfield (fifth), St. Albans (14th) and Riverside (20th) were among the Kanawha Valley teams in AAA girls. In AA-A girls, Charleston Catholic checked in seventh, Herbert Hoover in ninth and Poca in 16th. (See Page 2B for complete rankings.)
WVC HONORS: UC's Jordan Roberts, Shepherd's Keon Robinson and Concord's D.J. Scott have been named West Virginia Conference football players of the week.
Roberts picked up offensive honors, guiding the Golden Eagles to a 30-10 victory over Fairmont State. He rushed for 148 yards on 24 carries while scoring a touchdown. After Roberts blocked a punt that gave UC a safety, he erupted for a 45-yard touchdown run. Roberts also established the school's career record for rushing yards.
Robinson was tabbed with defensive accolades, helping the Rams register a 20-6 win over Concord. In the victory, Robinson posted 10 tackles, all of which were solo stops. He also added an interception and had a pass break-up.
Scott won the special teams award thanks in part to picking up a blocked field goal attempt and running it back 71 yards for a touchdown for the Mountain Lions. He also added four solo tackles in the game.
In the win at Concord, he recorded the game-winning goal and added an assist. Against regional rival Bloomsburg, Vincent tallied a hat trick in the 4-1 win. In the overtime victory against Urbana, Vincent was credited with an assist on the game-winning score.

MU SOCCER: The Marshall men's soccer game against Asbury on Wednesday will now begin at 6 p.m. at Sam Hood Field in Huntington. The match had previously been set for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
