Coming off strong finishes to the 2011-12 season, Marshall junior DeAndre Kane and senior Dennis Tinnon have been named to the preseason All-Conference USA team.
Kane, already a two-time all-league selection, averaged 16.5 points and 5.4 rebounds last year. His signature game was a 40-point explosion in the C-USA tournament quarterfinal, and MU needed them all to fend off Tulsa in triple overtime.
The game may ultimately have landed the Thundering Herd in the National Invitation Tournament. As it was, MU made a conference tourney final for the first time in 15 years.
Tinnon was one rebound short of averaging a double-double, tallying 10.2 points and 9.97 rebounds. He won second-team all-league honors and was named to the C-USA all-defensive team.
Central Florida's Keith Clanton was picked as the preseason player of the year. Joining Clanton and Kane on the first team are Tarik Black of Memphis, Miguel Paul of East Carolina and Ricky Tarrant of Tulane.
Also on the second unit are Chris Crawford, Joe Jackson and Adonis Thomas of Memphis and Neil Watson of Southern Mississippi. The teams were selected by the 12 C-USA coaches, who were not allowed to vote for their own players.
The Herd begins practice Oct. 12, with the annual Thundering Herd Madness at 8 that night. The exhibition game is Oct. 29 against Bluefield, and the season opener is Nov. 9 against Longwood.
