WVC football: Shepherd remains unbeaten in WVC
Advertiser

Shepherd avenged last season's loss to West Virginia Wesleyan by scoring 30 consecutive points to beat the visiting Bobcats 37-6 Saturday.

Rams quarterback Bobby Cooper found Billy Brown for a 15-yard touchdown before Wesleyan's Brain Vukela scored on an interception return that got the Bobcats within one point (the extra point attempt was blocked).

That's when the Shepherd defense put the clamps on Wesleyan.

The Rams (5-1, 4-0 West Virginia Conference) did not allow another point by the Bobcats (2-4, 1-2) while getting three second-half touchdowns from Allen Cross. After Cross scored from 12, 25 and 2 yards out, Anthony Weisenmiller caught a touchdown pass to close the scoring.

For Shepherd, Cooper completed 14 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns. Robert Byrd led all receivers with 91 yards on five receptions while Cross finished with 118 yards on 19 carries to go with his three touchdowns.

Wesleyan's Jeremy Musselman threw for 179 yards while receiver Layvaugh Hughes led the Bobcats with five catches for 71 yards.

  • CONCORD 14, GLENVILLE 9: After trailing early, Concord came from behind in the second half to defeat visiting Glenville State.
  • The Pioneers score two early field goals to take a 6-0 lead before the Mountain Lions' Ben Nester scored on a 2-yard run.

Nester scored again in the fourth quarter to give Concord (3-3, 2-2) a 14-6 lead. Glenville (2-4, 2-1) got within five points on Eddie McKay's third field goal of the day but could not catch the Mountain Lions.

Concord running back Calvinaugh Jones ran for 186 yards while Glenville's Rahmann Lee finished with 105 yards on the ground.
