MU SOCCER: The Marshall women's soccer team lost a 2-0 Conference USA decision to Tulsa Friday at Cabell Midland High School. Raven Tatum netted a pair of goals for Tulsa. The Herd (6-8-1) outshot the Golden Hurricane 9-7.

  • LOCAL GOLF: The Virginias squad leads its Carolinas counterparts by a slim one-point margin (121/2-111/2) following the first day at the 67th Captain's Putter Matches at The Resort at Glade Springs' Cobb and Stonehaven courses.

    Twenty-four golfers from the Virginias and the Carolinas are competing in the matches. Virginias claimed morning foursome matches at the Cobb Course by three points (71/2-41/2), while Carolinas' regulars responded and won afternoon four-ball encounters by two points (7-5) at the Stonehaven Course. The event concludes with 24 final-day singles matches today at the Cobb Course.

  • WVU WOMEN: The West Virginia women's basketball team will tip off the season with Haunted Hoops, an exhibition event against Concord at 7 p.m. on Oct. 30 at the WVU Coliseum. Haunted Hoops is a Halloween-themed first look at the WVU women's basketball team, and is free and open to the public. Coliseum gates open at 6 p.m. and fans are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes.
