Roundup: Concord leads WVC golf tourney

Nathaniel Begley and Stefan Labuschagne each shot 1-under-par 71s as Concord held a four-shot lead after the first day of the West Virginia Conference men's golf tournament on the Cobb Course at Glade Springs Resort on Sunday.

The Mountain Lions registered a team score of 294, four shots clear of second-place Charleston and 12 strokes ahead of third-place Davis & Elkins.

D&E's Cam Buist also shot a 71, creating a three-way tie for first in the individual competition.

John Carbone leads UC after shooting an even-par 72.

The teams will play the second round today.

  • MU SPORTS: Olivia Elliott connected on a goal in the first half and SMU made it stand as the Mustangs defeated Marshall 1-0 on Sunday at Hurricane High School.

    The Thundering Herd fell to 6-9-1 overall and 2-5-1 in Conference USA.

  • WVU SPORTS: Uwem Etuk scored a goal and added an assist as the No. 21 men's soccer team rolled to a 3-1 win over Hartwick on Sunday in Morgantown. Majed Osman and Shadow Sebele each scored a goal as well for the Mountaineers (8-3-2 overall, 3-0-1 Mid-American Conference).

  • The No. 1 WVU rifle team defeated host No. 12 Ohio State and No. 15 Akron on Sunday. The Mountaineers registered a score of 4,690, while the Buckeyes scored 4,594 and Akron 4,571.
