  • HYCAT SWIMMING: The Huntington Y Charleston Aquatic Team will host the Debbie Kortz Memorial swim meet this weekend at the University of Charleston's pool.

This will be the 25th year for the meet, which honors Kortz, a former member of the HYCAT coaching staff and special education teacher in Kanawha County. Kortz died at the age of 30 in 1986 after a four-year battle with cancer.

Up to 160 swimmers are expected to compete in the meet representing seven different clubs from two states. This will be the first major competition for many of the swimmers. HYCAT won the overall team title at last year's meet.
