The Black Eagles (6-4) entered the game ranked No. 19 in the Class AAA playoff chase, three spots out of the final berth. They have concluded their regular season and must wait to see if they can move up enough to qualify.
History is on their side - the last time a Mountain State Athletic Conference team went 6-4 and did not make the playoffs was Nitro in 1999.

Grier found Kevin Forrest through the air for a score to increase the Black Eagles' lead early in the third and, two minutes later, Trevond Reese scored an 84-yard punt return to make it 34-7.
"We went into it with the mindset that it was our last game,'' Reese said, "and if we lost, it could be our last game. Regardless, we wanted to show everybody that we're for real, and that we wanted to be here and we were going to play our hardest and give it our all.
"We knew that they weren't very good tacklers in space. We watched film on them, so we tried to get our athletes in space and make them make some moves. Once we got them down, we weren't going to let up. They kept fighting hard to come back - the lead was just too big to come back.''
Lindamood and Aaron Roberts scored TDs late in the third quarter to rally the Big Reds within 13 points, but Grier hit Forrest for a second score - this one from 69 yards - to seal the win.
