Roundup: West Liberty picked to win WVC men's hoops

Defending league champion West Liberty has been selected as the preseason favorite to win the West Virginia Conference men's basketball championship this season by the league's coaches.

The Hilltoppers received 14 of the 15 possible first-place votes with last year's runner-up, Charleston, predicted to finish second again this season.

Fairmont State, with an overhauled roster and rookie head coach in Jerrod Calhoun, was picked to finish third and received the other first-place vote.

West Virginia State was tabbed to finish fourth, with Alderson-Broaddus, Shepherd, Wheeling Jesuit, Pitt-Johnstown, West Virginia Wesleyan, Concord, Seton Hill, Glenville State, Davis & Elkins, Bluefield State and Ohio Valley predicted to follow in that order.

  • The Falcons are led by former Sissonville star Kaitlin Snyder, who was a Division II second-team All-America selection last season while averaging 21.5 points and 4.4 assists.

    Glenville State, a finalist in the WVC tournament last year, was picked second, followed by West Liberty, Concord, defending champion West Virginia Wesleyan, Shepherd, Davis & Elkins, Pitt Johnstown, Seton Hill, Charleston, West Virginia State, Wheeling Jesuit, Alderson-Broaddus, Ohio Valley and Bluefield State.
