Roundup: UC will host NCAA men's soccer tourney game Monday

The University of Charleston earned an NCAA Division II men's soccer tournament berth Monday.

The Golden Eagles (13-1-4) are the No. 2 seed in the region and will host No. 3 Mercyhurst (14-5-1) at 5 p.m. Sunday at Schoenbaum Stadium.

  • WVC HONORS: Fairmont State's Daniel Monroe and Matt Wilmer and with Shepherd's Dominic Tolson have been named West Virginia Conference football players of the week.

    Monroe was tabbed with offensive honors after rushing 11 times for 118 yards and four touchdowns in the Falcons' victory over West Virginia State. He broke free for a career-long 81-yard touchdown run to break a 7-7 tie late in the first quarter.

    Tolson recorded defensive accolades with a game-high 10 tackles, including eight solo stops in the Rams' win over Glenville State. His 45-yard interception return with just 46 seconds remaining in the game sealed the win for the Rams.

    Wilmer nabbed the special-teams award, registering 241 all-purpose yards against West Virginia State. He tallied an 86-yard kickoff return for a score for Fairmont State, marking his second kickoff return for a touchdown this season.

  • Seton Hill's Corrine Gahagen won conference volleyball honors, guiding the Griffins to a 3-0 mark. For the week, she tallied 30 kills and hit .367, tallying just eight errors while adding four aces, nine digs and nine blocks.
