Roundup: UC ousted in NCAA soccer tournament

Mercyhurst's Sam Dorf scored in the 81st minute to give the Lakers a 1-0 win against the University of Charleston in the second round of the NCAA Division II soccer tournament at Schoenbaum Stadium.

The Golden Eagles outshot Mercyhurst 13-5 but could not break through for the equalizer in the game's final minutes. UC goalkeeper Sean Teepen was not tested much, but gave up the one goal while making three saves.

  • WVSU HOOPS: West Virginia State shot just 23 percent from the floor, losing 63-40 on the road at Mercyhurst.

    The poor shooting day for the Yellowjackets (1-1) included a 1-for-16 showing from 3-point range. Anton Hutchins led WVSU with 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds. David Ford added five points while Howard Douglass, Juan Johnson and Raymon Austin each scored four.

    Luis Leo led the Lakers with 13 points.
