HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Chad White's 3-pointer with three seconds remaining lifted South Dakota State to a 78-77 victory over Marshall on Saturday in a subregional game of the 2K Sports Classic.

A half-court heave by Marshall's DeAndre Kane was off target as time expired.

The Jackrabbits (2-2), who had pulled within 77-75 on Brayden Carlson's 3-pointer, got the ball back after Chris Martin missed a free throw for the Thundering Herd (2-2) with 10 seconds left.

Marshall had taken a 77-72 lead on Robert Goff's layup and a 3 by D.D. Scarver after the game had been tied for the 10th time.

The Jackrabbits (2-2) made 11 of 21 3-point attempts, good for 52.4 percent. The Herd hit 8 of 23 for 34.8 percent.

"We didn't get the job done defensively and let two late 3s beat us," said Marshall coach Tom Herrion. "The 3-point shot beat us the entire day. Our 3-point defense hurt us mightily today."

Marshall lost despite outrebounding SDSU 42-29.

"Their spacing is very good,'' said Herrion of South Dakota State's 3-point prowess. "They have a good skill level and shoot the ball really well. We are going to play teams that are very similar in that regard."

Carlson scored 23 points on 5-of-7 shooting on 3s and Nate Wolters added 22 points for the Jackrabbits, who turned the ball over just four times. Wolters also handed out 10 assists and White finished with 10 points.

Kane's 19 points led four Marshall scorers in double figures and added eight assists against just three turnovers. Elijah Pittman had 16 points and 14 rebounds while Scarver and Dennis Tinnon scored 10 points each for the Herd.

Marshall will play its third game in three days at 3 p.m. today against Hofstra in the final game of the 2K Sports Classic benefiting Wounded Warrior Project.
